EuroJackpot
The EuroJackpot lottery is relatively new, only launching in November 2011. However it has already made a name for itself across the globe. Draws take place every Friday night in Helsinki with a huge minimum jackpot prize of €10 million (approx. $14 million), and jackpots can get as high as a whopping €90 million (approx. $125 million)! The reason why it’s such a big lottery is because EuroJackpot is the home lottery for 17 European countries…. the more players buying tickets, the bigger the prizes. Euro Jackpot has a record jackpot prize of €60 million (approx. $85 million). If after 12 draws the jackpot isn’t won, the jackpot rolls down to the 2nd division – this happened in 2012 when there was only one division 2 winner so effectively, the jackpot was won by a player who didn’t even match all 7 numbers!
How to Play
For Euro Jackpot, numbers are drawn from 2 machines. Firstly, one machine contains 50 balls numbered from 1 to 50 of which five balls are drawn. Another machine contains 10 ‘Euro Numbers’ numbered from 1 to 10 of which two balls are drawn. In a standard game, players choose five numbers from the first range of 1 to 50 and two Euro Numbers from the second range of 1 to 10. To win the jackpot, a player must correctly guess all five standard numbers as well as the two Euro Numbers.
Taxes
As with many European lotteries, prizes are tax-free.
Odds of Winning
Odds of winning a prize are 1 in 42, and the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 95,344,200.
