La Primitiva

Spain’s La Primitiva is drawn every Thursday and Saturday night. It is one of the world’s oldest lotteries with origins dating back to the 1700’s although the modern game as we know it was introduced in 1985. La Primitiva is much loved in Spain because it offers some great odds. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s handed out billions and billions in prize money. How to Play

For La Primitiva, six main numbers are drawn from a machine containing 49 balls numbered from 1 to 49. Also drawn is a bonus number (called the ‘Reintegro’ number) that acts as a supplementary number which helps players win division 2 only. In order to win the jackpot, a player must match all of the six main numbers, regardless of the Reintegro number.

Taxes

Prizes up to €2,500 are tax free, and prizes over €2,500 are subject to a tax rate of 20%. However, citizens of countries other than Spain are entitled to claim a full tax refund.

Odds of winning a prize are 1 in 57, and the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 13,983,816.
