New York Lotto
New York’s state lottery Lotto is drawn twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday nights. This gives players two chances to become a multi-millionaire each week. This lottery has had some impressive jackpot wins including its all-time record set in 2007 when $65 million (approx. $86 million) was won. Unfortunately participation in New York Lotto has been on the decline over recent years. There are a few reasons for this decline. Firstly, the starting Lotto jackpot was reduced from $3 million to $2 million in April 2013. Another reason for the decline is the introduction of mammoth lotteries Powerball and Mega Millions tempting players away from Lotto with their unparalleled jackpots.
How to Play
For New York Lotto, six main numbers are drawn from a machine containing 59 balls numbered from 1 to 59. In addition, a bonus number is also drawn that acts as a supplementary number. Although not contributing to the jackpot prize, the bonus number does help players with division two. In order to win the jackpot, a player must match all of the six main numbers regardless of the bonus number.
Taxes
Prizes up to $4999.50 are tax-free and prizes above $4999.50 are subject to a 44.17% tax for non-residents.
Odds of Winning
Odds of winning a prize are 1 in 96, and the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 45,057,474.
